Many know Hugo Pérez as a Journalism and Mass Media Communications professor at New Mexico State University but what they may not know is that before walking the hallways as a professor he walked those same hallways as a student and earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Spanish. Since then, Pérez has worked in commercial and public television as a photojournalist and has helped produce six documentaries in New Mexico, Albania and Croatia. From traveling to Southeastern Europe presenting professional media to giving broadcast training workshops in Albania, and to the faculty & students of the University of Zagreb in Croatian, Pérez’s recent project was Belo Border Bureau (KHOU-11). There, alongside reporter, Angela Kocherga, he would cover news stories related to drug cartel violence and other border topics on the U.S./Mexico border and the interior of Mexico. Pérez now teaches Field News Videography, Digital Editing and Studio Production classes and students are lucky to be learning from an almost  famous individual.
