-What is it you like about this photo?

This is a very abstract image so you could say what I like the most is all the different shapes in it and different areas you can focus on. I see this as multiple possible images in one.

-What is the light source, what direction is it coming from?

Since it is an exterior shot and appears to have one particularly strong light source, I’d say it is the sun, coming from the right.

-Timing. Did the photographer get the “Decisive Moment?”

Yes, although maybe not as decisive as a sports shot, it still requires a very particular placement of the sun in a mostly clear sky.

-What’s the focus (refer to class discussion)?

To me the focus would be in the lower left part of the image, where that very sharp shadow is created. The contrast between the white wall and the shadow bring my eye there but I also think the focus could depend on who is viewing it since there is so much to look at in this image.

-What makes this photo great?

The shapes created by the building itself and those added by the shadows, giving it that abstract feeling.

-Could you make a photo like this, here, in Las Cruces/El Paso?

Possibly yes, but I think it would be hard to find a place that gives off the same feeling as the one in the picture.

How? Where?

Wait for the sun to come down to create those long shadows and a place with interesting buildings.
