Andrew Madrid
Andrew Madrid, 77, of Phoenix, Arizona usually makes an annual trip to Las Cruces during Labor Day weekend. He and his daughters come to Las Cruces to pick up some Hatch green chile to take back to friends and family member that live in Phoenix, so they all can enjoy some fresh chile. While the Madrid’s are in Las Cruces they stop by to visit family members, where they talk all about the good ole’ times.
Andrew Madrid was sitting down with family members and telling old stories about his racing days. Madrid was once a horse racing jockey in the late 1950s, early 1960s, traveled near and far to go horse racing. Horse racing was a way to support his wife and children at the time. While racing Andrew Madrid hurt his back while horse racing, which led him to take time off from horse racing to recover from his back injury. Madrid won many races up until he retired in the early 1970s.
Nice work Ione. I like the way you handled the portrait. Nice fall off on the focus. The story, too, is compelling. A Jockey! Wow!
Like the cigarette too. You don’t see that too much anymore. Nice prop!
