Journalism is the reason we have news; it is those people who chase down everything that is happening around us and report on these stories in our everyday world. Even though many believe that “the media” is bias and inaccurate, journalists are the reason we are even aware of social issues happening in other parts of the world. For example, in recent events the situation in Kabul as we have discussed in class.

The journalism industry began in print when cameras first arose photos of people, events, issues and everything was printed and distributed on physical paper. Now a days print news isn’t as popular as before, with the rise of the smart cellphone we have no need for a print newspaper. This is where the common misconception arises, people believe the journalism industry is dead but in fact growing in a rapid pace. Many people with a smartphone can now check their news every day, every hour, every minute for the latest information. There is a demand for more investigators, reporters, and photographers like journalists.

To make a living in today’s journalism industry one must be willing to adapt to any situation and be a versatile reporter/investigator. Sticking to a niche will get you some work, but being able to cover any type of news story will get you recognition and first picks on stories. In a growing industry of photography where the average consumer has the ability to capture any image one must be able to stand out and differentiate themselves from the common person.
