I don’t know what it is, but I love protest photography, and it makes me a little sad that I can’t go to these big protests happening now–because of school and the pandemic and everything. But I just love it. I love that people are standing so strong for what they believe in.

This photo is of a lady at a protest against the destruction of trees in Gezi Park, Istanbul. She turns to block her face as a Turkish police officer sprays tear gas.

I like this photo a lot because you can tell even though she turned that she is still standing strong. The timing is perfect with her hair and dress twirling as she spins, and the officer spraying the gas. Although you can see some other tear gas around them, I think this is the first second of spray coming from that guy. It helps tell the story I think. Also look how nice she’s dressed to be at a protest.

All of it is just really amazing.
