Important people in our pond
Every one has those people in their lives, or just people that we see constantly, that are known in our area or school for being great at what they do, but not many people realize how important they are. These people are what we consider “Big fish in a little pond”, because we know that they will become the greatest at what they love to do.
These, for me, are my big fish in this little pond of ours that we call Las Cruces.
This amazing Journalist student, has been volunteering and working for our NMSU student run Spanish segment at KRWG News 22, or Noticias 22 in Spanish. Arlette Villa, is graduating this semester as a Journalism major in Mass Communications, and will soon embark in her career as a news reporter in Spanish news stations. You can see this beauty in a couple of segments of the NMSU Noticias 22, as the main anchor in the known page of YouTube.
Our very own photographer, Aurora Rodriguez, is getting all her classes ready for a very soon graduation as a Journalist. As a student of the Journalism department at NMSU, she is also preparing for a career in the Media. With her talent as a News Anchor and reporter, she took the challenge this semester of telling stories by photographs. You can see some of her work here at nmsu.documentaryshooters.com.
Ponciano Nunez, is not your regular student at New Mexico State University. At the contrary, Mr. Nunez, is owner of four Tire Shops at El Paso, Texas, named Economy Tire. He has been a business man for the past 20 years, and decided two years ago that he wanted to go back to school. Now, he is known as a student majoring in Philosophy, who is looking to graduate in two more years. Although school was a huge 180 degree turn for him, he is able to maintain four businesses, a full-time school schedule and time with his family.
I am personally very proud of these three people in my life and they have showed me that i need to really work for what i want. I wish all of them the best in their careers and in their future plans! GOOD LUCK!

NMSU Photographer and News reporter
Nice job Cyndi. Your story-telling is very good (extended captioning). The people are well chosen. I like that you got them acting for you. You brought out their personalities. Good stuff.
The photography part: Be careful w/light. The one w/Aurora, for example…she’s looking right into the light, squinting. You can move her to a better light, you can shoot at another time, etc. You have control. Look at your chosen photojournalist (beginning of the class) and ask yourself,How would that photographer do it. Squinting? I think not.
Good effort. Work on the light. Study it. It’s the primary element of the language of photography.
PS The guy is not in sharp focus in his face. Faces -eyes- must be in focus. Be careful with your focus.
