I spend a lot of my time at the pond here at NMSU, and I’ve noticed all the people that come by to relax, feed the ducks, and most commonly, to fish.

From the few weeks I’ve been working on this assignment, I’ve noticed that there are all kinds of people that come by to take advantage of the fishing on campus.

My first day of shooting I found a lot of experienced fisherman catching trout and catfish left and right. A few days later, I ran into a fourth grade class that came to the pond with the intention of learning to fish. Everyone there was talking with each other and having a merry time while waiting reel in a catch.

Two fourth grade boys learning the basics of getting a fishing hook ready.
After catching nothing but leaves, these kids laughed as they struggled to unhook their rods from the trees around them.

Not only has this experience helped me learn about the people the spend their time at the pond, but it has also helped me connect with them. By the end of this project, I was welcomed and made acquaintance with the people I worked with.

  1. Great idea. Well executed… good immersion in your project…. some great “Decisive Moment*” images.
Pleased that you found that photography is the thing that connects people (perhaps you could look at my TED talk…. that was kind of the idea of the talk:”Walking Between the Lines.”).
    Good job Nicole.
