At the time of the Spanish Conquest, Spaniards who knew adobe from Africa found it of great use in the New World, they taught the Indians how to mold large bricks. Today you can fine adobe homes throughout the Southwest.

The first permanent settlers made their home in Mesilla in 1848. Today it's home to over 2,000 people.
