Patricia Salas, 56, is a farmworker who seeks to educate locals a more ecological approach to dispose waste by verimcompost. The method is used with worms in order to convert the waste into fertilizer. She considers her worms as her, “Other children,” Salas said. Salas has about 10 large bins full of vermicompost. Salas’ vermicompost operation is located behind her garage. Instead of creating more carbon into the atmosphere Salas uses worms to get rid of her trash and to produce fertilizer for her plants. As seen here, there are numerous of worms located in the dirt of the compost bins. Sometimes when rotten food gets pitched into the bins of compost, plants sprout. Here is a tomato plant.
