Spring has come to southern New Mexico, this barrel cactus was in full bloom at Victorio springs in the Florida mountains. Victorio was an Apache chief that led roving bands of Indians in harrassing the settlers of New Mexico, prospectors stumbled upon Victorio and his renegades at this spring early one morning, in the battle that ensued Victorio was shot, he died later somewhere in Mexico from the wound.
