One of my favorite photographers is James Nachtwey. He’s best known as a war photographer and is well recognized for his extreme work. Nachtwey’s work always caught my attention because he would take pictures of people and things the public was not used to seeing. He took pictures of people dying, in harsh illness, destruction, suffering and glimpses of hope caught in between.

People would believe his photographs more than what the news and government would tell the public. Nachtwey is an inspiration to me. Not only does he document the reality that is so often hidden to majority of the world, but he does so passionately. By looking at his photographs you can see the world through the eyes of the people who are living in these situations. You can feel what they’re going through and hope that maybe knowing their pain can alleviate future damage upon the world. Nachtwey helps me believe that maybe photography can change the world. It can bring attention to those who need help and receive it. I hope that people see his images of others being torn apart and instead come together.
